A slang term describing a fan of horror movies, particularly the most graphic and gory films.

A hardcore gorehound may have little appreciation for more subtle horror films, preferring the bloodiest, most ham-fisted slasher flicks, gleefully tallying up body counts and raptly enthusing over the minutiae of artificial entrails. But there's nothing inherently wrong with being a gorehound -- I suspect that many horror fans started out as gorehounds and eventually learned to appreciate smarter, scarier movies.

In fact, most horror fans learn to enjoy the best of both worlds: I myself regularly watch movies as subtle as the original black-and-white versions of "Cat People" and "The Haunting" and as splatterific as "Evil Dead 2" and "American Werewolf."
