Elysian Park (place)

Originally a land grant from the king of Spain, it is large park in downtown Los Angeles that was created on April 5^th, 1886. It started with a 550 acre parcel of land that grew to over 600 acres. Some say that it is also the location of the Tongva Indian village of Yangna.

Intersting Points in Elysian Park History:

• Large portion of the park was given to the LAPD as its training academy.


• Large portion of the park was traded (Chavez Ravine) to build Dodger Stadium, it was given a equal portion (30 acres) of land between Rose Hill and the Arroyo Seco.


• Portion used to build the Pasadena Freeway.
