Contrary to the the popular
myth,
Sally Field never actually said these words as they are commonly remembered. Her acceptance speech for her second
oscar concluded:
"The first time, I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it and I can't deny the fact that you like me! Right now, you like me!"
Of her speech, Jeff Bridges, who starred with Field in Stay Hungry and Kiss Me Goodbye, said: "It was just so soul baring. It's the core of the whole thing! So vulnerable and courageous. She's willing to express the truth of her feelings and share herself unabashedly. We got a huge jolt out of it that night."
