Jon Sable, Freelance is a comic book that was published by First Comics in the 1980s. The title character is a mercenary, who also leads a second life as a children's author. Using a wig and fake name, Sable appears on television and in public, without "harming" his tough-guy image.
Mike Grell wrote, and usually drew the series. Because of Grell, the comic was full of all kinds of cool guns and other weapons, which were true-to-life in representation.
Jon Sable had a good run, and was resurrected as simply Sable for a time. There was even a Sable televison series, but it was poorly done, and died early.
