Thor (person)

The Norse God of Thunder, as well as of Justice and Law. He is traditionally portrayed a a red haired, bushy bearded wild character. He is a son of Odin, and the husband to Sif. He wields:

• Mjollnir, a hammer which always returns to his hand when thrown.
• Megingjord, a girdle, which increases his already prodigious strength.
• Jarngreipr, an iron gauntlet, that lets him wield the lightning of his hammer.

Thunder is created when his cart, pulled by his two goats (tandgrisner and tandgneister, or toothgrinder and toothgnasher) is driven across the sky.

He has made many appearances in literature since his stint as a god. These include, but are not limited to:

• He was a character in Douglas Adams' The Long Dark Teatime Of The Soul, although people tended not to want to notice him. He also, unfortunately, had to deal with an airline attendant being turned into a Coke machine.
• He is a vital but mostly unseen character in goats: the comic strip, his primary appearance was when he gave Jon and Phillip, his third goat, toothgnip, for whom he had no use.
• He also appears in a comic book of his own name, published by Marvel Comics, but I know little about that, except that they screwed up the way his hammer looks.
