folk-rock singer-songwriter, born in 1941 in
Eugene, OR. Hardin's songs were gentle and sad, sometimes beautiful, and often went unrecognized until they were covered by, among others,
Colin Blunstone,
Ginger Boatwright,
The Byrds,
Glen Campbell,
The Carpenters,
The Association,
Beat Farmers,
Joan Baez,
Johnny Cash,
Rod Stewart,
Nico,
Scott Walker,
Michael Chapman,
Robert Chapman, and
Bobby Darin. He appeared at
Woodstock, but after the early 70s his work degenerated as a result of a
heroin habit. He died of an overdose in 1980.
