The
American Physical Society (
APS) is the
professional organization for
physicists in the
United States. They
raise funds
and are active in
lobbying Congress and other
government officials for
scientific funding.
The Society is active in helping physics graduates
find
employment.
Examples of APS publications are
the research journals,
Physical Review and Reviews of Modern Physics, as
well as a more
accessible magazine called Physics Today.
Many conferences in the U.S. are also sponsored
by the APS. Of particular importance are the national
"March" and "April" meetings, the former focuses on
condensed matter and applied physics, while the
latter is more oriented toward nuclear physics.
The Division of Particles and Fields (DPF) also
holds a national meeting.
The American Physical Society is one of five
members of the American Institute of Physics.
