The surgery (canine and feline) :

Today, (thank goodness for progress, as this was not always the case,) the animal to be neutered is put under general anesthesia. An incision in the scrotum is made, and one testicle is pulled out trhough it. The testicle is severed from the vas deferens, which is then tied into a knot. The knot is allowed to slip back into the scrotum, and the procedure is repeated for the second teste.

For dogs, several sutures are placed in the scrotum to close the incision. These are usually removed within 10 days. No sutures are necessary during feline neuter surgeries, thanks to the ability of their skin to heal in about eleven seconds flat.
