One of the many books I read for the Newbery Award competition back in sixth grade.

The story concerns a pigeon who carries messages in World War One, and goes through a number of difficulties in the process.

If memory serves, she was delivering for the French resistence, but it's been a while. Nonetheless, it was a fairly mature book (intelligence wise, not sex or violence) for a kid's book, which is why

  1. I was very pleased to read it, and
  2. I was extremely disappointed that they only asked questions about the more recent books. But I won anyway.
