Upon filming Mutiny on the Bounty in the South Pacific, Marlon Brando liked the location so much that he bought an island there. Tetiaroa is about 5 square miles in area and was a former vacation spot for Tahitian kings. It is located 26 miles (42km) NNW of Tahiti. It used to be completely private but now has its own resort hotel.

The island has 12 inlets which enclose a lagoon with 100 ft. deep coral gardens. It is a popular snorkling spot and bird watchers go there to see the thousands of sea birds that live there. It is a 20 minute chartered flight away from Tahiti's Faa'a airport.
