Prince Ashitaka belongs to the people of the East. One day he is forced to kill one of the forest
gods turned
demon, when it attacks his peaceful village. In the process he is inflicted with a cursed wound. He is banished from the tribe and must travel west to meet the Deer God who may cure his wound and curse before it kills him. He can't return to the village, though.
Ashitaka is a proud, strong young man. His sense of justice is the most prominent
trait. He is very capable of viewing a matter from various sides, not judging someone on their beliefs. Ashitaka ends up in a conflict between the humans on one side (Lead by
Lady Eboshi) and nature on the other (Lead by
San and
the Wolf God).
