Died on August 28, 2000.

Allen was a former emplyee of Gibson Guitars and was a member of the Allman Brothers for nine years and since 1997 bassist for Gov't Mule. His untimely death was sudden. The cause is yet to be determined.

"The Gibson family has lost one of its own," said Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz. "Our hearts go out to Allen's family."

Woody spoke recently about his music and said, "Music is a way of conveying your emotions and that's the way you feel at the time and it shouldn't really have all of the pressures of modern society. It should be stripped down to what it was in its initial form, which is communication."
