Nicknamed "The Hawk," Andre Nolan Dawson was born in Miami, Florida on July 10, 1954. He attended college at Florida A&M before being drafted by the Montreal Expos. Ten years playing on the hard Astroturf outfield in Olympic Stadium left Dawson with chronic knee problems, but he left Montreal as the Expos' all-time leader in hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and RBI.

Dawson continued to shine with the Chicago Cubs, winning an MVP in 1987, the first player to do so on a last-place team. Dawson played with the Cubs for six years before finishing his career with the Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins. He racked up over 300 stolen bases, 400 home runs, and 500 doubles.

The right-hander won eight Gold Gloves for defensive excellence, played in eight All-Star games, and is eligible for enshrinement in the Hall Of Fame in 2001.
