Nicknamed "The Man", Stanley Frank Musial was born in Donora,
Pennsylvania on November 21, 1920. Musial hit the big leagues in 1941, and spent his entire 22 year career as an All-Star
outfielder for the
St. Louis Cardinals. He won three
National League MVP awards and three
World Series rings. The sweet-swinging lefty batted .331 for his career, which included seven batting titles, but also collected well over 400 home runs and nearly 2,000 RBIs (5th All-Time with 1,951). His 3,630 hits place him behind only
Pete Rose,
Ty Cobb, and Hank Aaron on the all time list. A statue was erected at
Busch Stadium in his honor in 1968, and he was elected into the Baseball
Hall Of Fame one year later.
