1938-98 American artist associated with the Fluxus movement

In 1958-59, he took a class from John Cage at the New School for Social Research on the topic of Experimental Music. There he was exposed to the idea of Performance Art. He also met La Monte Young , Jackson Mac Low, George Brecht, Allan Kaprow and Al Hansen. The experience of the class, as well as the friendships he made there constituted a nexus from which Fluxus would emerge.

Did quite a bit of Performance Art and coined the term Intermedia. He is the founder of Something Else Press when he was still in his mid 20's. Married fellow Fluxus aritst Alison Knowles.

He wrote the poem: i.e., or vice versa.
