Late
1970s craze that combined all the
excitement of
roller skating with the
hot sounds and
cool moves of
disco. Those who could skate and dance backwards were looked upon with awe and reverence.
In a career move that must haunt him to this day, Ed Begley, Jr. played a roller disco king in Charlie's Angels episode # 4.10, "Angels on Skates" (airdate 11/21/1979). By the time Roller Boogie*, the movie designed to capitalize on this fad, hit the theaters, roller disco was no more and the film sank like a stone. You can, however, see much roller disco-ing in Xanadu with Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly.
