Bedrock is the very stable foundation on which other items are constructed. A good example is the island of Manhattan. It is especially stable and the underlying bedrock can support very tall skyscraper buildings. Other places, like San Francisco, don't have that underlying stable bedrock and some buildings are compromised as sections settle after construction. There are several new buildings that have settled unevenly and the residents are concerned the building will topple over during an earthquake.
Bedrock is also the fictional town where the Flintstones live with their neighbors, Barney and Betty Rubble. The Flintstones has the distinction of being the first prime time animated television show.
