The Drawing of the Three is the continuing story of Roland, the last gunslinger, as he travels west in search of the Dark Tower. It is the second part of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. This book opens with Roland being eaten alive by "lobstrosities", large flesh-eating crab-like creatures that come out of the ocean at night. Roland escapes the creatures and travels north along the coast.

As the story unfolds, Roland enters New York City twice through separate portals to draw his companions. In the first, he rescues Eddie Dean (the Prisoner) from certain incarceration and draws him back through the doorway. In the second, Roland brings back O'Detta/Detta Walker, a crippled woman who suffers from schizophrenia. We are left wondering who or what the third companion will be. See The Waste Lands.
