A sharp-shelled member of the
Koopa Troop in the
Super Mario Brothers universe. Spinys begin their lives as pointed eggs thrown from the clouds by a
turtle called
Lakitu. The
Spiny Eggs rain down to Earth and hatch when they hit the ground, revealing the Spinys themselves. They march onward, never stopping. When they hit a pipe or block they turn around and reverse direction.
Spinys can not be stomped. They are only defeated by using a fireball, cape attack, Starman power, or being hit by a kicked shell. Despite their sharpness, Yoshi can also eat them without a problem.
Spinys turn into grey coins when exposed to a grey P-Switch.
