Democratic Senator from Massachusetts

Senator Kerry graduated from Yale University. John Kerry entered the Navy after graduation, becoming an officer on a gunboat in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. He received a Silver Star, Bronze Star and three awards of the Purple Heart for his service in combat. Upon his return home, he became an active leader of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War and a co-founder of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He attended Boston College Law School and after graduating worked as a prosecutor in Middlesex County.

Senator Kerry is married to Teresa Heinz. He has two daughters, Alexandra and Vanessa. Teresa Heinz has three sons, John, Andre, and Christopher. Senator Kerry lives in Boston.

John Kerry was Lieutenant Governor in 1982, and then was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984. He was re-elected in 1990, and again in 1996, defeating the popular Republican Governor William Weld. Kerry is the chairman of the Democratic Steering and Coordination Committee. His Committees:
