Pan de Muertos means “Bread of the Dead,” and is made to be placed on
ofrendas during Dia de Los Muertos. Although it is made for the dead the living may eat of it as well.
Pan de Muertos is sweetly flavored with anise, orange peel, and orange glaze. Traditionally it is shaped like the top of a skull with a knob at the top, and is criss-crossed with bone shaped decorations.
