January 20, 2020 was the day the first case of Covid-19 was diagnosed in the United States of America.

An unidentified man flew into Seattle, Washington from Wuhan, China on January 15th. His first symptoms appeared on the 16th, and on the 20th he was diagnosed with 'novel coronavirus'. After a stay in the hospital, he recovered fully. It is worth noting that later cases of Covid-19 in the US could not be traced back to him, and it appears that asymptomatic community spread may have already been occurring in America before this.

As of January 20, 2021, we have had 415,038 reported deaths, and 24,967,952 identified cases. We have just had multiple vaccines released for distribution, and perhaps 15 million Americans have had their first Covid shot; it is generally assumed that they will also receive a second shot to maximize effectiveness. Meanwhile, there are hundreds of thousands of Americans who do not take the pandemic seriously, refusing to wear masks, social distance, or treat the matter as anything other than a political issue.
