The Daisy Age was a concept created by the hip-hop group De La Soul on their 1989 debut 3 Feet High And Rising. The record art had a flower motif, and the track D.A.I.S.Y. Age suggests that the term is an acronym for "Da Inner Sound Y'all". The sincere hope of the group at the time was that a new genre of positive, fun rap would emerge, and they, along with artists such as A Tribe Called Quest and Afrika Bambaataa formed the Native Tongues. However, by the time of release for De La Soul's second album, De La Soul Is Dead, commercial rap had changed entirely, with artists such as Dr Dre forming the forefront of the G-Funk movement, later to metamorphose into the all conquering gangsta rap.
