Long Island University is the seventh largest private university in the country, with nearly 31,000 students -- mostly New Yorkers -- and over 700 full-time faculty members. It has three campuses, one in Brooklyn, NY, one (the C.W. Post campus) in Brookville, NY, and one (Southampton College) in the resort area The Hamptons. The Brooklyn campus, on Flatbush and Dekalb Avenues, is the oldest of these, opened in 1926. Graduate-level courses are taught at regional campuses in Brentwood, Long Island and in Westchester and Rockland counties

The Southampton campus closed in June, 2005.

The school began as the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in 1886. Now the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, it is still one of the nation's premier pharmaceutical schools. The university also offers degree programs in various liberal arts fields, including political science.

The school's NCAA Division I men's soccer team has been successful, and forward Giovanni Savarese was a 9th round pick in the 1996 Major League Soccer draft.

I went to Boston University myself, but there's a Junior's nodeshell, and the Brooklyn campus is across the street.
