Movement chiefly represented by Thomas Szasz and Peter Breggin, which serves a body of opinion critical of conventional models of mental illness and psychiatry.

Antipsychotic medication can cause numerous side effect symptoms or illnesses such as tardive dyskinesia or kidney damage. Antidepressants can cause mania and violent behaviour. Psychiatric wards can forcibly detain people who pose no threat to society other than being different. ECT (electro convulsive therapy) can cause brain damage and memory loss. The historical record shows psychiatry in many countries perpetrating human rights violations, eugenics, mass sterilisation and in the case of the Nazi regime mass murder of patients.
