I agree with Your wedding is not for you, because, well, frankly, it's not. A wedding is just the formally recognized commitment and definite financial commitment, not to mention the opportunity for the newlyweds' families to get together and meet the new branch of the family tree. As The_Moo_Cow said, weddings can be very stressful and are not necessarily the happiest day of a person's life. Though I can't say I speak from experience, I'd think that the moment that two people realize they want to be together for the rest of their lives would be more monumental than the ceremony that follows. It's not about the wedding, it's about the marriage.
