A theoretical perspective of anthropology, postmodernism puts forth the idea that although we strive for objectivity, we can never achieve it. Everything we think is colored by our own assumptions and cultural baggage. We must examine the assumptions of ourselves and others in order to understand exactly where everyone is coming from, so we can attempt to see past the assumptions to the truth. However, postmodernism can be taken too far: if everything is subjective, and we cannot possibly hope to be objective, then what's the point of learning or discovering anything at all? If you want to look at it that way, consider this: there is no truth, there is no reality - what we think is reality.
