An interesting factoid:
Arthur C. Clarke said in Cyberfest '97 Internet panel discussion (also quoted in Newsweek) what HAL's first words probably would have been:
"Good morning, doctors. I have taken the liberty of removing Windows 95 from my hard drive."
...Maybe Win95 would have problems dealing with HAL's ridiculously huge RAID, anyway, so that would not be a big loss... =)
