The European whortleberry (Vaccinium myrtillus); also, its edible bluish black fruit.
There pinch the maids as blue as bilberry.

2. Bot. Any similar plant or its fruit; esp., in America, the species Vaccinium myrtilloides, V. caespitosum and V. uliginosum.
