Probably better than the flick itself (which is horribly uneven, damn you MTV Generation!!) is the soundtrack, which covers a number of 80s movies staples, but all done surprisingly well, giving songs at or approaching their 20th (!!!) anniversary a fresh spin and great sound.
Of special note is Marilyn Manson's cover of Soft Cell's Tainted Love. He gives the already bitter song a little more irony, a little more horniness, a little more black desire and makes it his own. And the video for the song (included on the DVD for the movie) is just downright nasty and hot and good'n'stuff. It's a bummer that the soundtrack doesn't include Good Charlotte's cover of Bow Wow Wow's I Want Candy; while their rendition of If You Leave is just dandy, it lacks a certain exuberance that the former cover most definitely exudes over the lackluster dance number in the film.
While most of these songs can be heard elsewhere (Orgy doing Blue Monday seems to be in every soundtrack doesn't it?) this soundtrack makes an extremely nice collection of good 80s music made, in many cases, even better by being brought forward into the 21st century.
