Green Chartreuse is a liquer--some say cordial--that is the only drink in its category that is naturally green. The drink, originally made by French Carthusian monks, is made with 130 different plants and herbs and is aged in oak barrels. The green color comes from the chlorophyll in all the herbs involved. There is also a Yellow Chartreuse, lighter and lower proof, that is naturally colored with honey and saffron. Green is 55% alcohol, or 110 proof. The ingredients found in the Green Chartreuse are alcohol, sugar, 130 plants and flowers.
