Spanning two major networks (ABC and Fox) and lasting 23 episodes in total, The Critic has gone on to become a cult favorite. This animated series followed divorcee Jay Sherman, a movie critic for "Coming Attractions", a cable movie review show on channel 63, owned by the wealthy and powerful media mogul Duke Phillips. The show was crtically acclaimed but failed to catch an audience, and ran on ABC from January 1994 to June 1994. Fox picked it up as a midseason replacement for March 1995, alongside The Simpsons. Sadly, it didn't last so long there either. The voice acting was brilliant, featuring Jon Lovitz as Jay Sherman. Jay was adpopted, had a son by the name of Marty, his best friend was Australlian hunk Jeremy Hawk and hated just about every single movie. The series featured tons of hilarious movie parodies, from The Lion King to Spartacus. In the Fox run, Jay snagged a southern girlfriend, also divorced, who's name was Alice Tompkins. A brilliant show which will go down in history as an all time favorite.
