Home of Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain, and his family from 1874 until the 1890s when the family was forced to leave the house due to impending bankruptcy. Mark Twain's oldest daughter Susy Clemens died in the house while the rest of the family was in Europe. After this, Sam and his wife Livy (Olivia) found themselves unable to live in the house and it was sold. The house itself was decorated by the design firm of Louis Comfort Tiffany and features elaborate stenciling - at the time cheaper than wallpaper. It has been used as a private home, part of a boy's school among other things. Located in Hartford, Connecticut, it is now a museum. Garrison Keillor once took a tour there, broke a billiard ball, and insulted the tour guides.
