Cheilosis is a painful condition where cracking at the corners of the mouth occurs. Also known as angular stomatitis.

A common cause is candidiasis secondary to constant moistening of the side of the mouth with saliva, often due to ill fitting dentures and sometimes from habitual licking of the side of the mouth. Other causes include riboflavin deficiency, AIDS, diabetes and excessive supplemental vitamin A.

Treatment should be to identify and remove the underlying cause.
