The posterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Really an extension of the hypothalamus itself as it does not produce any hormones but just contains the axons of hypothalamic neurons which form a bundle behind the anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis). Also forms the pituitary stalk, by which the pituitary appears to hang from the bottom of the brain.
