A daggerboard is part of a sailboat used instead of a centerboard. Like a centerboard, a daggerboard is an adjustable keel located in the bottom center of a sailboat to keep the boat from drifting sideways while underway. Unlike the centerboard, which folds down from a sleeve in the bottom of the boat via a hinge, a daggerboard is fully removable from the boat and is inserted through the hull through a slit in the center. Daggerboards are usually found on smaller (10’ to 16’) sailboats.
