Vox barbara, the first A.Word.A.Day for 2002, is a noun, and refers to a barbarous word or phrase. It is particularly used for a supposedly neo-Latin term that is formed from elements that are neither Latin nor Greek, and thus is really part of no language at all. Voces barbarae are probably most common in botanical and zoological names.
Vox Barbara is also the clever name of a rather obscure ambient noise "project" by Frank Smith which may now be defunct. The basis of the music appears from websites to be something called kirlian audio; an analogue of kirlian photography, kirlian audio uses sound analysis software developed by Eldon Chorashan to generate soundscapes.
