I was young and naive and thought I knew everything;
didn't we all?
My mother warned me long ahead of time,
and I dismissed it,
because all maternal opinions were matronly nonsense
in my little bubble of a world

Now I've fallen through the ice
without even realizing that I'd put on the skates
Now I'm staring death in the face,
trapped under the surface,
unable to breathe

I think to myself,
I'm glad she isn't here to see me now,
because she'd be shaking her head

It is too late when I realize that I'm in the afterlife,
and she's shaking her head
