Nikki Giovanni is a black poet, born in Tennessee. She writes about the struggles of being a minority, love, politics, including poems for political figures such as Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. In my opinion, her poems are truthful, smooth, and gut-wrenching. Everyone should read her works which include Black Feeling Black Talk/Black Judgement, Re: Creation, My House, The Women and the Men, Cotton Candy on a Rainy Day, Those Who Ride the Night Winds, and many others.
