Literally, "air head".

Aside from the air-filled sinuses in the bony skull, presence of air adjacent to brain tissue is unusual.

It can be caused by fistulous tract formation; penetrating wounds; fractures, erosions from tumors or infections; after brain surgery; or it may occur spontaneously.
