Town in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. About 1000 meters above sea level. This is where you go to see the famous Three Sisters rock formation.
Katoomba is perched atop an 800 foot cliff above the Jamison Valley. The Great Stairway is carved into the cliff, allowing you to descend to the valley. Once you're at the bottom, you can walk across to the Scenic Railway, basically a roller-coaster style train which takes you right back up the steep cliff. Or, you can walk up another steep path. The Scenic Skyway is a gondola car that crosses a gorge on a cable.
A beautiful place and a nice getaway from crowded Sydney.
