Hawaii signed the
Reciprocity Treaty with the US in 1875, and its kingdom was overthrown in 1883, and a republic formed under the
aegis of the US. It was annexed by the US in 1898 and confirmed as a US territory on 6-14-1900. Became the 50th state in 1959.
It is a series of islands created by a volcanic hotspot.
