Architect of the gods within the
Hindu pantheon; god of all artisans and craftsmen. Father of
Samjna, and father-in-law to
Surya.
First appears in the Rig Veda, and then later in the puranas.
A parallel function is serverd by Hephaestus in Greek mythology and Vulcan in Roman mythology.
