Full name Gnaeus Pompeius Trogus, Roman historian from the country of the Vocontii, in Gallia Narbonensis, flourished during the reign of Augustus. Author of books on natural history of animals and plants. Trogus is best known for the 44 volume work Historiae Philippicae, a history of the Macedonian Empire, from the founding of Nineveh to about 9 CE.

Historiae Philippicae is based upon the writings of Greek historians, including Theopompus, Ephorus, Timaeus, and Polybius. Only fragments of the book remain.
