WPFW is a community sponsored public radio station in Washington, D.C., the fifth station to become part of the Pacifica network, a non-profit radio network founded by pacifist Lewis Hill. WPFW went on the air in 1977, after a six year fight for the last available frequency in the Washington, D.C. area. The programming on WPFW consists of international, national, and local news, and music, almost exclusively jazz. WPFW broadcasts at 89.3 FM.

WPFW is noted for its' jazz programming, and for providing a voice to minorities not heard through other media outlets. The WPFW studios are also home to Pacifica Network News.
