This PC graphics format, developed by Zsoft for its pioneering DOS-based paint program PC Paintbrush, was at one time the standard for bitmapped graphics. PCX uses run-length encoding to compress graphics. PCX is more efficient in its use of disk space than the Windows standard BMP.
