autumn already

Today is an auspicious day. The mushroom fructifications of 45 degrees South cluster and buckle the mossy soil, resulting in a reluctant undulation. It seems too early in the Southern hemisphere for Amanitas to be already summoning condensation to coat the earth in a liquid sheath. Too early to be demanding a dewy byway for germinating germlings.

Even though I long every year for autumn still it seems premature, this year it comes stepping into summer's shoes before even the laces are untied. but perhaps i'm just closer to the pole then usual.
