More than anything else, this name is a pseudonym for sundry Henry Rollins solo project work, but in particular, refers to the Rollins Drive By Shooting EP (1987, Texas Hotel), where the moniker was specifically used as the band name.

Drive By Shooting was recorded around the same time as Rollins' Hot Animal Machine; the latter also includes a credit reference to "Henrietta Collins". Drive By Shooting itself is an album from the pre-Rollins Band era -- although eventual Rollins Band guitarist Chris Haskett does play on this album. In retrospect, seeing as Rollins has spoken out many time against domestic violence, this name is more farcical than not.
