Acronym for the psychological diagnosis, "Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified".

See "Dissociative Disorders" for a more detailed explanation of dissociative disorders.

A diagnosis of DDNOS means that a patient has a lot of dissociative symptoms, but doesn't meet the criteria for Dissociative Identity Disorder, or MPD.

DDNOS and PTSD are the most frequent diagnosis in survivors of childhood abuse, specifically physical and sexual abuse. These survivors experience the flashbacks and intrusion of trauma memories, sometimes not until years after the childhood abuse, with dissociative experiences of distancing, "trancing out", feeling unreal, the ability to ignore pain, and feeling as if they were looking at the world through a fog.

PTSD, dissociation, depression, anxiety syndromes and addictions are common among survivors.
