Bergen-Belsen located outside the Celle in lower Saxony was considered a transit point.

Bergen-Belsen was never officially given formal concentration camp status.
Still the officer second in command helped to transform it to that status.

The most recognized figure to have wound up at Bergen-Belsen where she eventually succumed to typhus was Anne Frank.She died a few weeks before the camp was liberated by the British. She was 15 years old.
